The upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face are worked on during this therapy leaving you feeling the beneficial physical and psychological effects, and more subtle effects which include re-balancing of energy flow within the body.

Everyone having a treatment will have an initial consultation to find out general information and specific needs and requirements. This will help you to gain the most out of your experience and
support your therapy journey.

What Is Reflexology?

As a member of the Association of Reflexologists, I pledge to fulfil the following

guidelines wherever practicable within my therapy practice:

1. I minimise unnecessary purchasing in my practice – I use up existing things before buying new ones, and reuse items where appropriate and safe to do so

2. I use paper only where necessary, and to choose paper that is recycled/carbon balanced/ FSC or PEFC certified

3. I ensure that any products I use are produced in an environmentally sustainable way, eg low volume organic production runs (locally sourced products Wild Human Skincare) read more about this below.

4. I ensure that chemicals used in my practice are not harmful to the environment

5. I consider the carbon footprint of items and products used in my practice

6. I minimise the waste generated by my practice and make sure any waste generated is recyclable or compostable

7. I aim to minimise the impact of my travel on the environment

I will select the most appropriate product option for you when providing your treatment.

Prior to starting your treatment, I will cleanse your feet using warm water and amazing baths salts to gently relax you before the treatment session starts.

Foot Reflexology

The feet are representative of the whole body, the right foot being the right side of the body & the left representing the left side. The position of reflexes on the soles of the feet reflects the corresponding organs & parts of the body, the big toe being the head, from the big toe to heal down the inner edge of the foot is the spine and the heal representing the sciatic.

The foot is also split into 10 longitudinal or vertical zones from head to toes, and 4 transverse zones; Shoulder line; Diaphragm line, Abdominal line; and the Pelvic line. The principle of the zones is that any organ, gland, or body part that fall within the same zone are connected by energy. If there is a block of the body’s natural energy it will influence other organs or parts of the body in that zone.

It is a commonly held belief in reflexology that the practitioner starts on the right foot (or hand) as this side of the body is thought to be in the past. The left side of the body, including the foot (and hand) are said to be in the future. From an anatomical perspective, left to right is the flow of direction for the digestive tract.

Is Reflexology Foot Massage?

Reflexology is not a form of foot massage however there are relaxation techniques used within your session as part of the reflexology treatment.

I will use effleurage and smoothing techniques to relax and warm the foot. Foot relaxation techniques are a key part of helping to engage with the client, putting you at ease and as a means of applying the medium for the treatment.

Relaxation techniques will also warm up the foot at the start of the treatment session and reconnect with each foot alternatively between the focussed technique applications.

Reflexology of the hands

Hand reflexology works along the same principles as reflexology on the feet using a body map for the reflex zones on the left and right hands.

It uses similar reflexology techniques with pressure applied on various reflex points around your hands which correlate to different body parts.

Hand reflexology can be used on anyone. It may be an individual preference or where foot reflexology may not be possible due to injury, infection, or an underlying condition that relates to the foot or parts of it.

I will discuss the most appropriate reflexology location with you when an initial consultation is carried out.

Treatment Details

Your first reflexology treatment and review will last between 75 and 90 minutes so that I can carry out your consultation review which includes a short medical questionnaire. I will discuss with you how I use this information to inform your treatment . I will ask you to read and sign a declaration in relating to the General Data Protection Regulations  (DPA 2018) and will provide you with a copy of  our Privacy Notice.

I am also able to carry this out over the phone. All subsequent treatments will last 60 minutes with a pre-treatment update before and feedback on my findings after the treatment.

You remain dressed for your treatment session and will only need to remove your socks and shoes. You should
wear something comfortable and for females, it may be better not to wear tights.

For foot reflexology, if wearing trousers, I will need you to roll your trousers legs up and if having hand treatment, I will ask you to be roll your sleeves up to the elbow.

The pod is extremely private and so you will be able to make yourself comfortable before the treatment begins without being disturbed.

During the treatment, I will wrap your feet in fresh towels to
keep them warm whilst I work on the other foot.

I believe that music is a key to relaxation. I will provide gentle spa music throughout your treatment and have complied bespoke playlists to help you experience peace and tranquillity.

If there is something you would specifically like to listen to during your treatment, this can be facilitated. I have also designed playlists filled with familiar music for children and young people to listen to during their treatment session.

Relaxation Techniques for Children and Young People

Reflexology is a safe, natural complementary therapy that can be enjoyed by all ages including babies and children.

Introducing children to reflexology can start in new-borns and continue as a method of relaxation and for promoting wellbeing as they grow and develop.

Reflexology opens communication pathways between children and their parents. It will aim to achieve calm for a busy child and stimulation and energy for a sluggish child.

I will facilitate sessions for communication and focussed support, creating individual sessions that engage your child, as well as making it enjoyable and relaxing for them. Whilst I am not trained to teach parents to deliver reflexology, I am able to suggest things that may help relax their child in between treatments. I will be undertaking training in the near future to be able to support  parents to facilitate sessions at home alongside their session in the pod.

All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. I have an enhanced DBS certificate which is a higher level of assurance as to my suitability to work with vulnerable groups as part of my role as a complementary therapist.

What To Expect For Children's Sessions

Prior to your child’s treatment, I will arrange a telephone consultation to go through your child’s Consultation questionnaire and current needs. I will ask a parent or guardian to sign the Consultation form and consent form for your child's reflexology treatment when you come along with your child on the day.

One parent will come along to each session provided where you can relax and enjoy the time, read, or close your eyes.

Your child will be able to relax on the
therapy couch, tucked in under a blanket and propped with cushions to support them.

I will play a relaxing playlist of music specially tailored for children or you can choose music that they like.

I will begin and end each session with guided breathing and relaxation followed by treatment on both feet or hands.

Your child may fall asleep, or they may be chatty and inquisitive about the treatment or sing along to the music.

I will be guided by them as to how long the treatment lasts but it is important for them to know that it is their time.

Hot Stone Reflexology

The use of hot stones in complementary therapies has been around for thousands of years and is based on the principle that heat relaxes the body and allows the therapist to work at a deeper level to support balancing through the healing nature of the therapy.

It is a soothing and relaxing treatment which works on the feet and the lower part of the legs using basalt stones, sometimes referred to as lava stones, known for their healing properties and iron-rich content which retains heat. It can be marvellously comforting in the colder months too!

The benefits of incorporating hot stones into a reflexology treatment include:

·     Improved circulation

·     Increased elimination of toxins

·     Reduced muscle tension in the feet

·     Promotion of relaxation and a decrease in stress and tension in the body

·     A faster response to treatment due to warming of the feet

It isn’t recommended for everyone; inflammatory conditions such as arthritis or skin conditions such as dermatitis along with other conditions which include diabetes and pregnant clients (see foot reflexology treatment for further information) will mean that hot stone reflexology may/will not be suitable for you. Following a discussion with you, I may advise you to speak with your GP before proceeding with hot stone reflexology.
