Hello and welcome to Tŷ Adweitheg Reflexology Therapies @The Mill

Hi, I'm Hayley

I founded Tŷ Adweitheg with one simple goal in mind;

to bring the joy of reflexology and Indian Head Massage to others.

My Space is your Space

for the time that you are with me.

About Me

I’m Hayley Humphries and I am a qualified reflexologist. I trained at a local college gaining the Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) level 3 Diploma in Reflexology. In September 2022, I began training in Indian Head Massage therapy which I successfully completed in June 2023.  I have also undertaken courses in Hot Stone Reflexology (2022) and Auricular (Ear) Reflexology (June 2023).

I provide reflexology and Indian Head Massage in a home-based purpose built space called ‘the pod’. It has a naturally calming, simplistic vibe and is the perfect haven for relaxation and escaping the busyness of day-to-day life.  I also work in the beautiful Head Space Hair Salon in Dinas Powys on Thursdays.

I am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). You can search the FHT Directory Service for a therapist online at https://www.fht.org.uk/findatherapist
I am also a member of the Association of Reflexologists and am registered to practice with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).  You can find out more about Reflexology and membership of these Organisations at https://www.aor.org.uk

My background is in Children’s nursing and paediatric palliative care. Having seen the beneficial effects that complementary therapies, and particularly reflexology, had for the children and families I worked with, the spark of interest just grew and grew.

In early 2019, I started to explore the possibility of training in reflexology, making the decision to take a new pathway away from nursing to pursue this dream and make it a reality and I haven’t looked back.

The knowledge I gained as a nurse has helped me to understand the
systems of the body, and I revisited anatomy and physiology studies as part of my reflexology training too. More than this, having cared and working with people has helped me to develop all the elements needed to be a holistic reflexologist.

 Why Reflexology?

I believe that Reflexology is more essential than ever in today’s hyper-connected world.

It provides the opportunity to hone your attention while also gaining a deeper understanding of your body.

Everyone can benefit from reflexology and its many beneficial effects. It is a safe, natural complementary therapy that can be enjoyed by all ages.

I'm excited to be able to bring the benefits and the power of reflexology to the Cardiff  community.

Why Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage works on the physical, psychological and subtle levels representing a de-stressing programme for the whole body.

By working the upper back, neck, shoulders and scalp many positive physical benefits are achieved which include:

  • improved blood flow to the head and neck
  • an increase in the supply of oxygen and nutrients nourishing the tissues and encouraging healing
  • stimulation and improvement of lymphatic drainage to and from the head and neck which helps to eliminate waste and toxins from the body
  • relief of eye strain and headaches
  • relief of mental and physical stressors helping to improve concentration
  • improved muscle tone, relief of muscle tension and pain from muscle spasm and promote healing from muscle damage, constriction, and adhesions
  • improved joint mobility and relief of restricted joint movement
  • promotion of hair growth due to nutrients and oxygen reaching the hair because of the massage techniques used on the scalp

Psychological effects include:

  • a feeling of balance and calm
  • alleviation of stress, anxiety, and depression
  • helping clearer thinking

Subtle effects include:

  • a re-balancing of energy flow to the body
  • Releasing stagnant energy

A place to relax and unwind

Helping Loved Ones Through Reflexology

I have been able to support family and friends in several ways helping them to achieve balance and release with issues that have been affecting them.

My husband has suffered from neck and shoulder pain for many years. We have tried assorted types of pillows and purchased good mattresses and yet nothing has relaxed him in quite the way that reflexology has.

Since having treatments with me, he has been able to unwind totally and get a regular good night’s sleep

Supporting symptoms through Reflexology

I have been supporting a close friend suffering from symptoms relating to menopause, working reflex in the reproductive zones, and applying pressure to the hormonal reflex points.

She has felt the release of emotions like a rush on every visit and finds the space peaceful and comfortable.

She has said that she feels at ease with me to be able to let go, and leaving her treatment feeling able to cope until the next time.

What is Reflexology All About?

“Reflexology can be the first step in discovering other ways to live happier, healthier lives” Laura Norman, The Reflexology Handbook

Central to Reflexology are touch and connection. It is something that we don’t do day-to-day other than don our socks and shoes and go about our daily lives adding to the wear and tear of our feet. Similarly, hands are used consciously and subconsciously from the time we wake through to sleep.

An invitation to touch another’s hands and/or feet through therapy is, therefore, an out of the ordinary experience for most people. Reflexology is an intimate exchange between the practitioner and the person that can often release emotional and spiritual feelings.

Often clients have described to me a sense of letting go, a ‘heady light feeling; one of emptying their minds and being somewhere else.

So How Does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that uses the application of pressure to areas on the feet or the hands which is generally relaxing and may help to alleviate stress and pain.

The theory is based on areas or ‘reflex zones’ of the foot or hands that correspond to the organs and systems throughout the body.

The principles of reflexology are based on stimulation of those reflex zones on the hands and feet, beneficial effects can be felt in the associated area within the body.

Whilst Reflexologists work using a map of reflexes to locate the reflex zones, the locations may feel different for every individual, treating the individual as a unique human being with different requirements and needs.

The condition of the foot is a reflection of the status of the body, therefore reflexology therapy is considered a method for improving health.

From an anatomical perspective, each foot has 33 joints and is supplied with thousands of nerves and so by applying specific reflexology techniques, the nervous system is directly affected in a positive and stimulating way.

In addition, the circulation is stimulated in reflexology supporting the natural flow of the cardiovascular system to help the mechanical contraction and relaxation of the blood vessels within this central system of the body.

Reflexology works by using a variety of relaxation techniques, including thumb walking, finger walking, pressure on reflex points, spinal twist, and feathering. I will incorporate a variety of these techniques along with guiding you in your breathing to support and enhance your reflexology experience

If you have experienced reflexology before, you may have a preference for the level of pressure used – gentle or a harder level. Often clients worry that they will find reflexology uncomfortable as they have ticklish feet. Don’t worry, I will adjust the pressure to suit you, asking you how the treatment feels so that you have the best experience possible for your treatment at Ty Adweitheg.

How will Reflexology affect you?

Some clients come for an hour of complete peace and will lie back, close their eyes and either relax or go to sleep. Other clients find that the treatment makes them feel energised and they become quite chatty and animated. Some clients describe the treatments as an emotional release.

When I work on the pressure points on your feet you may feel that some areas are more sensitive than others. This will show where you might have an imbalance in your body. I will focus on the areas identified to help bring your body and mind back in balance during the treatments and over the course of your holistic treatment journey with me.

I will provide you advice and guidance after your treatment to ensure you get the most out of your treatment and are aware of how you may be affected. You will receive a leaflet to take home which you can refer to during the first 24 to 48 hours after having reflexology.

“I have found my sessions with Hayley to be incredibly relaxing. I was anxious about having my feet treated but wanted to find a way to relax and de-stress.

It was incredible and I fell asleep which surprised me. The pod room helped because it’s just so calming. I felt like I was in another place without time, and I definitely benefit from returning to this ‘other’ place.

My symptoms are better, and I generally feel it gives me a boost to go about my life. I think everyone should try it”

"I had the most wonderful and relaxing treatment with Hayley today.  Hayley is a highly skilled and professional practitioner, who is intuitive to her client's needs and eager to do everything she can to help them.  As soon as my treatment was over I could feel the release of tension in my shoulders and I have been the most relaxed I have been in ages.  I have received several reflexology treatments in the past but this one today was excellent - I highly recommend Hayley"

"Hayley is an incredible therapist who puts you at ease from the moment she meets you at the door....She really understands what is needed and with her medical background and holistic approach she is able to help with many physical, emotional and mental health needs....I’m honestly so grateful to her helping me deal with some medical issues and also recent work-related tiredness after a very busy two years as a nurse. Everything about the treatment is relaxing and I would recommend Hayley as a therapist without hesitation as she’s given me so much advice regarding my diet and relaxation. An amazing experience!"

"I’m so glad I came across Tŷ Adweithegs instagram page.

Hayley is so welcoming and makes you feel so comfortable and at ease as soon as you walk through the door.

I’ve been twice for reflexology and felt so chilled and relaxed that I’ve fallen asleep both times on the massage table.

I’ve always come away from Hayleys place feeling calm, relaxed and had the best night sleep afterwards.

Thanks Hayley! Looking forward to my next treatment."
